The field for the Tenerife Ladies Match Play 2011 at Golf Las Américas from June 10-12 has been set with 32 of Europe’s best players prepared to do battle from Friday.
Laura Davies, Lee-Anne Pace, Kristie Smith, Becky Brewerton, Virginie Lagoutte-Clement, Ashleigh Simon, Zuzana Kamasova and Karen Lunn are among the top players headlining the field, along with Trish Johnson, who won last year’s 72-hole strokeplay tournament at Buenavista Golf Club.
The youngest of the 32 players will be Spain’s own Carlota Ciganda, teeing up for the first time as a professional. Her compatriot Paula Marti, the European No.1 in 2002 (pictured), will be playing her comeback tournament after the arrival of her second son, Jan, in November.
The event has both a match-play and stroke play format. Thirty-two players, the top 30 European ranked professionals and two guest players (Carlota Ciganda and Emma Cabrera-Bello), will compete head to head over two rounds of match play to pare down to eight players, who will then play 18 holes stroke play on Sunday to decide the winner and the other prize-money classifications.
Thursday’s Pro Am will incorporate a team and a professional individual stroke play event. The individual professional scores will determine the rankings for the match play stages. The prize fund is €120,000 with a first prize of €40,000.
Besides Turismo deTenerife as the main sponsor, the Gobierno de Canarias will also contribute with the additional support of the Real Federación Española de Golf and the Federación Canaria de Golf.
