South African Stacy Lee Bregman |
Masson, 21, from Gladbeck, also rated the course highly and was delighted with her round. Like Bregman, she had an eagle chance on the par-five last hole, after hitting a rescue to 10 feet.
She said: “It was really good. I hit a lot of fairways and a lot of greens; 17 greens actually. I didn’t make one bogey so I had a lot of chances and made good putts. I hit good putts they just didn’t go in.
“It’s a great score for a first round and you know you’re up there so everything is possible for the next day. You have to take one round at a time and play your best and see what happens.”
Hannah Jun from the United States, who is a ‘Henderson Rookie’ sponsored by Henderson Asset Management, opened with a four under par 68. Australian Rebecca Flood and English women Melissa Reid and Elizabeth Bennett were in a group a stroke behind.
French amateur Marion Ricordeau, 24, from Toulouse, finished on two under alongside England’s Trish Johnson, the 1999 champion at Paris International and Australians Nikki Garrett and Karen Lunn, who won the 1997 event.
Ricordeau is the 2009 French Amateur Champion and won the university world championships playing as part of her Toulouse team.
