Iben Tinning and Lisa Holm Sorensen will be hoping that its third time lucky when they reunite at next week’s Comunitat Valenciana European Nations Cup.

The duo finished tenth at the first staging of the tournament in 2008 and followed up with a tie for tenth at La Sella Resort near Denia last year.

Sorensen, the 2005 Finnish Masters champion, will be returning from a six month break due to a wrist injury while five-time LET winner Tinning will hope to build on two top ten finishes down under earlier this year.

Sorensen, who equalled the LET’s all time low score with an 11-under 62 at the 2009 SAS Ladies Masters in Norway, has not played a tournament since the Carta Si Ladies Italian Open in mid October.

She said: “I very much look forward to it. I’m very excited to start playing again after a six month recovery from a wrist surgery. I’ve played the VCI Cup the last three years and it’s a fantastic tournament so my expectations are high again this year.”

After returning from training at Emporda Golf in Spain, the 27-year-old from Hanstholm added that she felt ready to rise to the challenge posed by La Sella.

“I feel very rested and very excited to start competing again. My motivation for golf has really returned over the last few months and I’m so ready to get going again,” she said.

Tinning, the 2005 European number one from Copenhagen, is in fine form having tied for sixth and seventh place at the ANZ Ladies Masters and New Zealand Women’s Open respectively.

As a four-time Solheim Cup player and now in her 15th season on tour, she will bring experience to the team.

“It’s always fun to compete on a team with Iben, so it should be a great week,” Sorensen said. “We’ve known each other for about seven years through the LET and we’ve played at the VCI together over the last two years. We both play a similar game, Iben has a lot more experience than me so I always learn a lot and feel very comfortable playing with her. I feel we have just a good a chance as anyone, if both our games are on then of course we have the potential to win.”

Format of play for the 18-nation event will be fourballs (best ball) on Thursday and Saturday, with Valencian Cup on Friday and Sunday. Valencian Cup is a variation on the Greensome Chapman System, devised by the Spanish professional Marta Figueras-Dotti, the 1982 Ladies British Open champion. The format has been popular with the players over the last two years of the event.

“It’s very different than what we play all year long but it’s a refreshing change and of course you can also push the blame onto your teammate which is always nice,” Sorensen joked. Last year’s event was won by Christel Boeljon and Marjet van der Graaff of the Netherlands, who finished at 18-under-par after four rounds.

La Sella Resort will be in pristine condition for the tournament and fans are being offered free admission to come and support their favourite teams and players. For those not able to attend the venue, international telelvision coverage will be available, which in the UK and Ireland will be shown on Sky Sports.
