Japan’s Yuki Sakurai and France’s Caroline Afonso tied for second place on eight-under-par heading into the final round of Pre-Qualifying. Sakurai had a 67 while joint first round leader Afonso had a 70. Spain’s Emma Cabrera, a two-time PING Junior Solheim Cup player, carded 68 for a total of seven-under-par. All of the top four placed players in the field were amateurs.
Playing for the first time in Europe, the 18-year-old Sakurai from Tokyo bettered her personal low round by a stroke. Sakurai, who plays off a handicap of +3.7, said she carded six-under-par in the Junior World Championships in San Diego last year.
