Betsy King, the USA Captain, described the match-ups as “interesting”. But she was also confidence she had made the right selections.
“It’s funny because Laura (Davies) and Juli (Inkster) often go out first – and they’ve been paired together at No.3,” she pointed out. “I put Juli with Paula because they have played together before.”
“Pat Hurst and Cristie Kerr requested to play together and I listened to them and Natalie (Gulbis) told me she loves foursomes and I think she will be a great pairing with Morgan, who is so full of energy.”
Europe has a great record in the opening day foursomes. The last time the USA came out on top was at Muirfield Village in Ohio in 1998.
