Win no.2 came quickly in Italy |
In addition to her victories, Gwladys was a frequent attendee at prize giving ceremonies, having finished second twice, at the Open de Espana Femenino and in the Estoril Ladies Open of Portugal. She also finished joint third in the Wales Ladies Championship. She won a first prize of €20,000 in the New Star Bonus Pool, as the leading money winner on the New Star Money List competing in the final event of the season – the Dubai Ladies Masters.
“This means a lot, especially because it’s a player’s vote,” said Gwladys, who admitted that she was secretly hoping to win the vote. “To be honest, I didn’t think about it until I received the mail asking players to vote. At that time, I was thinking ‘Hmm, that would be nice yes!!’ I’m actually nicely surprised; proud – and very thankful towards the players who voted for me!”
Reflecting on the season and her three victories, Gwladys said that her first victory tasted sweetest. “I had been waiting for that one and when I got it, I felt relieved. That day I learned I could win, and that was the second best feeling – (the first one being winning!)”
What were the biggest disappointments? “My poor performance at the Evian is what I’m most disappointed about,” she said. (She finished tied for 41st place). “And also the bad last round I had at the British Open.” (77). “But these things happen for a reason and I can only learn lessons from these experiences.”
Gwladys is playing in Mauritius this week which she says will be an enjoyable break before she prepares for next season. She will represent France in the Women’s World Cup of Golf at Sun City in South Africa alongside her compatriot Stephanie Arricau from 19-21st January, to kick start the 2007 season.
