(Chart Hills, Biddenden – Saturday 9 July 2005) England’s Laura Davies, Wales’ Becky Brewerton, Ireland’s Rebecca Coakley and Finland’s Minea Blomqvist share the lead after the second round of the €165, 000 KSPoker.com Ladies English Open at Chart Hills GC.

Laura Davies

Brewerton, who is in her second season on the Robe di Kappa Ladies European Tour, was particularly delighted with her 68, despite a costly three putt for a double bogey at the ninth – her last hole.

“I’ll settle for a 68 any day, especially after struggling to make the cut at almost every other event so far this season,” said the 23-year-old, whose previous best finish this season was tied 13th at the ANZ Ladies Masters in Australia.

“There’s a lot of support out there and it does feel great to be back in Britain, flying the Welsh flag.

“Its been quite frustrating at times as I’ve been playing the same golf as I did last year, but just making silly mistakes like I did today. I’m hitting it solid and I know there are a lot of birdies out there, so I’ll just start from scratch again tomorrow.”

Davies said: “I started off pretty badly but then from the fifth onwards I played some quality golf shots.

“I’m striking the ball better than I ever have done at the moment, just not getting the wins.

“Still, tomorrow someone’s got to win and I just hope it’s going to be me – but I think you’re going to need to go five or six under tomorrow to win it. I should think with two or three under you’d have no chance.”

Rebecca Coakley

“It would be great to have another 66 tomorrow, I would pay a lot of money for that,” said the Finn, admitting that she couldn’t recall her 66 in the first round at the Ladies English Open last year.

“There’s a great field out there, with a lot of The Solheim Cup girls. I’m going to play aggressive and play my own game tomorrow.”

The cut fell at one over par.
