The 2005 Wendy’s Championship for Children, August 25-28, at Tartan Fields Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio, has been named as the last official event in which U.S. players can earn 2005 Solheim Cup points, and the U.S. Team will be named at the conclusion of the event on August 28th 2005.
The 2005 Solheim Cup will be played at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Indiana from September 9th-11th. American players began accumulating points for a spot on the 2005 U.S. Solheim Cup Team at the 2003 State Farm Classic, the week after the 2003 Solheim Cup Team selection. LPGA Tour and World Golf Halls of Famer Nancy Lopez serves as captain of the 2005 U.S. Team.
For the 12-person squad, ten players qualify for the U.S. Team by earning points for wins and top-20 finishes over the two-year period, with two players selected by the captain. Qualifying points for the U.S. Team are awarded weekly to the top-20 finishers and ties at official LPGA events. Only U.S.-born LPGA Tour players are eligible for selection for the U.S. Solheim Cup Team.
Point values for Solheim Cup points are: non-Solheim Cup years – 40 points for first, 20 for second and descending to 2 points for 20th place; and in Solheim Cup years – 60 points for first, 30 for second, 28.5 for third, 27 for fourth, 25.5 for fifth, 24 for sixth, 22.5 for seventh, 21 for eighth, 19.5 for ninth, 18 for 10th, 16.5 for 11th, 15 for 12th, 13.5 for 13th, 12 for 14th, 10.5 for 15th, 9 for 16th, 7.5 for 17th, 6 for 18th, 4.5 for 19th and 3 for 20th. The points listed above are doubled at the four major championships every year.
Tickets for The Solheim Cup will be distributed via a random draw. Fans from around the world can register for the random draw online at www.solheimcup.com. Entries will be accepted until December 31st, 2004, and the draw will occur on January 9th, 2005.

The Solheim Cup is the most prestigious event in women’s professional golf. It is a biennial, trans-Atlantic team match-play competition featuring the best U.S.-born players from the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) and the best European-born players from the Robe di Kappa Ladies European Tour (LET).
