(Evian-les-Bains, France July 24 2004) Australia’s Wendy Doolan fired a final round seven under par 65 to win the $375,000 first prize and deny Annika Sörenstam a third Evian Masters victory.

“I knew I had it in me to make a lot of birdies on this course,” said Doolan, describing her dream start to the final round where she was seven under for five holes around the turn.
“There were a lot of birdies and eagles there in a few holes and I’ll cherish that for a long time.
“Every win is a special win and that’s why were are out here practising hard each week and when it came down to it, I made the putt that matters.”
Sörenstam was disappointed, naturally. But took many positives as she heads to Sunningdale for the defence of her Weetabix Women’s British Open title next week.
“I was a little surprised when I got to the ninth hole and saw Wendy at 17 under,” she said.
“I knew she must have made eagle or something, but there weren’t many cheers out there. I figured someone would do something out there today and I was kind of hoping it was going to be me.
“I gave it my all but today I made a few mistakes and didn’t play as well as the first three days. This is a big tournament for me and I’m disappointed and it goes to show there are a lot of good players out there and the golf is getting better and better so I have to keep sharp.
“But I’m happy with the way I’m playing and now I’m even more fired up for next week.”
