(A Coruña, Spain, May 28 2004) Nuria Clau from Spain fired a second consecutive four under par 68 to take the lead halfway through the second round of the Union Fenosa Open de España Femenino Xacobeo 2004 at Club de Golf de La Coruña.

Stephanie Arricau – free beer for a year

“Tomorrow, if I can combine my two nines of round one and round two, it will be incredible, I think I’d be in trouble, too!” laughed Clau, a Mathematics Graduate from Wake Forest University in North Carolina, who shot five under par on the front nine on Thursday and four under on the back nine in the second round.

“My putting has been really good and my short game really sharp and I only had 25 putts today. Hopefully I can keep it going as this course brings back good memories for me.

Arricau, who lowered her best career score by one in setting the course record, was delighted to learn that she will be the recipient of a year’s supply of free beer for her effort from a local sponsor.

“It’s a good job I like beer then,” giggled the 30-year-old from Orthez, who has been working hard on her putting with coach Benoit Ducolumbier, who also teaches French European Tour player Gregory Havret.

“Two years ago, I decided to work on my fitness and I go to the gym three times a week now and it’s improved my game considerably,” she added.

“I am 31 in two weeks time and I feel like I am in the prime of my career and I can improve further.”
