Here’s the perfect prize to enjoy while watching this year’s Wales WPGA Championship of Europe, Royal Porthcawl Golf Club!
River Route has become synonymous with quality wines from Romania, a stunningly beautiful country lying on the same latitude as Bordeaux. At the winery in Oprisor in the sunny southwest of Romania, the team of international winemakers applies modern winemaking techniques to one of the oldest wine regions in the world, to the delight of a growing circle of wine experts and wine lovers. The river referred to in the name is the River Danube, which winds its way through Romania’s wine-growing regions.
Merlot |
River Route Cabernet Sauvignon:
Just a hint of French oak combined with ripe blackcurrant fruit flavours produce this delicious full-bodied wine. The vines are planted on rich, red soil, similar to that of the terra rossa soils in Australia, and its slightly firmer structure makes it an excellent food wine, especially with roast or grilled meat.
River Route Limited Edition Merlot:
The intense plummy fruit of this wine mingles with the gentle smokiness of oak to give a rich, full-flavoured style with overtones of chocolate and mocca. An excellent partner to hearty meat dishes such as roast beef with rosemary potatoes.
River Route Limited Edition Cabernet Sauvignon:
older vines and lower yields produce a wine with concentrated fruit. This full-bodied wine has extra complexity and is a wonderful accompaniment to peppered steak or beef in a rich red wine sauce.
La Cetate Merlot:
a powerful, intensely fruity wine that is matured in Hungarian oak barriques to give notes of toast and vanilla, which enhances the overall complexity of this wine. Not for the faint-hearted, this is a wine to enjoy with rich, hearty beef and lamb dishes. Available from Waitrose RRP £4.99.(www.waitrose.com).
