(Porthcawl, August 21 2002) The cream of the Evian Ladies European Tour have converged on the sun kissed links of Royal Porthcawl beside the Bristol Channel to fight for the lions share of the £400,000 prizefund at this week’s Wales WPGA Championship of Europe.

Davies, winner of the P4 Norwegian Masters three weeks ago, could make the captain’s options for picks more comprehensive if she play’s her way into the top seven as the six time Solheim veteran is almost guaranteed a record seventh Solheim appearance.
But trying to keep their status quo in sixth and seventh spot respectively are Suzann Pettersen from Norway and Denmark’s Iben Tinning.
With victories in Ireland and Italy this year, Tinning proved she is a determined soul and her big hitting prowess and pure ball striking will suit the prevailing conditions at Porthcawl.
Tinning has the ability to reduce Royal Porthcawl’s moderate par fives to their knees and with the added determination of becoming the first Dane to represent her continent, the 28-year-old from Copenhagen will be one to watch this week.
Only Davies, Elisabeth Esterl from Germany, Marine Monnet from France and Sweden’s Maria Hjorth – all present and in form – can knock her out of the automatic spots, but they will need to finish in the top ten to earn points to do so.
