Two names to watch in the Final Stage of Lalla Aicha Tour School will be Bronte Law and Linnea Ström, who have both stated their objective to join the Ladies European Tour and qualify for The 2019 Solheim Cup, to be played next year at Gleneagles in Scotland.
The pair both represented Europe in The 2013 PING Junior Solheim Cup at Inverness Golf Club in Colorado, under captain Janice Moodie, which has whet their appetites to graduate to the grander stage in September.
Taking place on the renowned PGA Centenary Course at Gleneagles, venue for Europe’s incredible victory in The 2014 Ryder Cup, The 2019 Solheim Cup will see a passionate crowd of 100,000 people roaring on the best golfers from Europe and the USA, led by team captains Catriona Matthew and Juli Inkster.
Ström’s good friend Madelene Sagstrom represented Europe in The 2017 Solheim Cup at Des Moines in Iowa, having won the Final Stage of Lalla Aicha Tour School in December 2016. Sagstrom’s experience has motivated Ström.
The 23-year-old from Hovas, Sweden, (below), said: “Seeing so many Swedes succeed is always motivation to be on the team one day. I played a lot with Madelene on the national team and since I turned pro, she has told me all about it.”
Law and Ström were on the same PING Junior Solheim Cup team as 2017 Solheim Cup players Georgia Hall and Emily Kristine Pedersen, so they know what is possible.
Law has played on the LPGA for the past two years and achieved five top-10 finishes this year, taking her Rolex Ranking position up to No.62.
The 23-year-old, from Stockport, England, said: “I’ve come to tour school with the main purpose of becoming an LET member. My goal is to play solid golf and put myself in a good position to have a good week.
“The main reason I am here is to be eligible to play in The Solheim Cup, so that is definitely a huge goal of mine. I love matchplay and have always thrived in a team environment, so it’s something I definitely want to be a part of. Playing in the PING Junior Solheim Cup, not only do you play against the best from the USA and play for your own pride, but you also get to see The Solheim Cup being played up close and have interactions with the players, which makes it a really cool experience. It definitely inspired me to be in their shoes, especially when I watched Europe pick up the trophy in Colorado.”
The other past PING Junior Solheim Cup players in the field are Esther Henseleit from Germany (2017), Mathilda Cappeliez from France (2015), Emilie Alonso from France (2011) and Leona Maguire from Ireland (2009 and 2011).
