Women golfers from around the world gathered at Mission Hills Haikou for the opening ceremony of the first World Ladies Championship on Thursday evening ahead of a unique three-in-one competition comprising an individual professional, amateur and team event over 54 holes on The Vintage Course.
The professional golfers are competing not only for individual glory, but 20 pairs are also playing for the pride of their respective countries or region with a 500,000 USD purse for the individual stroke play and an additional 100,000 USD team prize fund.
The new competition got off to a dramatic start with a grand opening ceremony that was held in the main clubhouse at Mission Hills Haikou, celebrating the birth of the World Ladies Championship on picturesque Hainan Island.
At the same time, Mr. Sun Zhengping, Sports Host of CCTV, also welcomed the annual Haikou Golf and Tourism Forum back to Mission Hills. Esteemed executives from around the world gathered to offer much-valued wisdom and advice for Haikou, as the Chinese city seeks to position itself as the world’s premier golf tourism destination.
Mr. Tenniel Chu welcomed the 108 players, guests and VIPs, while Mr. TK Pen and Ms. Alexandra Armas also welcomed the players from around the world, on behalf of the tournament’s co-sanctioning Ladies European Tour and China LPGA Tour.
