Morgan Pressel who defeated Anna Nordqvist by 2 & 1 in the third singles

Morgan Pressel mounted a brave American mid-afternoon fight back when she defeated Anna Nordqvist by 2 & 1 in the third singles match.

The talented young American had two putts for a win on the 17th hole but caused temporary consternation among the visiting support when she raced her first putt four feet past the hole before recovering her composure in time to knock in the return to defeat the Swede and reduce her country’s deficit to 11-10 with seven matches left on the course.

Moments later, play was suspended for the third time during the day due to the threat of approaching lightening. When play was halted at 16.10 (BST) the charismatic Christina Kim was four up after 14 holes and on the cusp of tying the overall score at 11-11.

Elsewhere, out on the course, Laura Davies was one up on fellow veteran, Juli Inkster, after 16 holes; Vicky Hurst had the same advantage over Mel Reid on the 17th tee; Christel Boeljon was one up on Brittany Lincicome after 15;  Suzann Pettersen and Michelle Wie were all square after 13; Ryann O’Toole was two up on Caroline Hedwall through 12; while Azahara Munoz was holding a slender one hole lead over Angela Stanford at the same juncture.
