| Brewerton relaxes at Portmeirion |
Becky Brewerton is riding a wave of success as she seeks a victory at the S4C Wales Ladies Championship of Europe this week.
After securing her second title of her professional career at the Open de Espana last month, the 26 year old went on to lead three rounds of the Evian Masters in France, eventually tying for 13th place and was then handed a captain’s pick for the coming Solheim Cup.
Her confidence is high and she has now set her sights on winning her home event at Royal St. David’s Golf Club in Harlech, North Wales.
“Royal St. David’s is definitely one of my favourites. I’ve played an awful lot of amateur events there and had some success there as well. It brings back fond memories,” she said.
“It is nice to come back home and often you’ve got your hands full trying to play the course rather than worrying about other things. It’s nice to have so much support and it’s quite different to most other weeks. Even when I won in Spain, Tania (Elosegui) had quite a lot of support and even though the crowd were fair, they really wanted her to win. Hopefully I’ll get that feeling this week.”
Brewerton has a bus load of fans coming down from her home town of Abergele, which is an hour from the golf course.
She says the competition will be tough with the likes of international players Katherine Hull, the Australian ANZ Ladies Masters champion, the Women’s Australian Open winner Laura Davies and the LPGA Champion, Anna Nordqvist of Sweden, in the tournament.
“It one of the strongest fields for one of our regular LET events. A lot of the players have stayed on from last week’s British Open and I think it’s going to be an excellent week,” she said.
The ninth instalment of the championship takes place from Thursday 6th-Sunday 9th of August, with Denmark’s Mianne Bagger striking the first ball at 7.30am.
