(Salamanca, May 30 2002) If inspiration is the key to victory, then New Zealander Lynnette Brooky has it in abundance as she stormed to the top of the leaderboard after the first round of the €250,000 Caja Duero Open de Espana Feminino at Campo de Golf Salamanca.
With an aggressive approach, the Kiwi made the best possible progress towards her quest after firing an aggressive six under par 66 to lead by two shots over Spanish amateurs Tania Elosegui from San Sebastian and reigning Spanish amateur champion Emma Cabrera from Gran Canaria.

“I am going for it for this week,” said the 34-year-old from Wellington, who is noted for being one of the most consistent players in women’s golf.
“I need to win this week to get into Evian, this is what I have been dreaming about. I’m very relaxed and I had a great caddie today who has never been on a golf course but she helped me keep calm all day.
“The layout her is really good and if you hit it close like I did all day, the greens are nice and true so you can putt with confidence.
“This week means everything to me, over the last couple of years, I have been too technical and now I just want to go out, hit driver when I can and kick butt – it’s been far too long since I have won. I have always been consistent and now I want to go that extra step again.”
