First round leader Laura Cabanillas

Round one of the Honma Pilsen Golf Masters resumed in overcast conditions at 7am Saturday morning and Laura Cabanillas completed a 62 (-9) to take the first-round lead.

After play was suspended at lunch time Friday due to storms, Cabanillas returned to Golf Park Plzeň – Dýšina to make an eagle putt on her last hole for a 60, but three-putted for a regulation par five on the ninth hole.

Australian Alison Whitaker fared better with the early morning start and holed a 20 foot putt for birdie on the fourth green. She followed up with another birdie on seven and chipped in for eagle on the ninth, coming back with two further birdies on 12 and 14 for a seven-under-par 64. Whitaker was then joined on seven-under by Frenchwoman Jade Schaeffer, the 2011 Prague Golf Masters champion, who had seven birdies in her round.

Both Whitaker and Schaeffer had a quick turnaround before beginning the second round at 11.40am from the 10th and first tees respectively. Cabanillas, 32, from Malaga in Spain, starts her second round at 4.50pm.

Ai Miyazato of Japan set the clubhouse lead before play was suspended due to storms on Friday with a six-under-par 65. She will begin her second round at 4pm and is paired with the defending champion Melissa Reid and Laura Davies.

Second round play is unlikely to finish this evening and those players who do not complete their rounds will return on Sunday morning before the cut to the leading 60 professional golfers and those tied is made after two rounds.
