The Ladies European Tour’s leading rookie, Casey Danielson from the United States, has already lifted one huge trophy in Morocco, after winning the LET’s Lalla Aicha Tour School in Marrakech in December.
The 22-year-old from Wisconsin now turns her focus to the Lalla Meryem Cup, to be played over the Blue Course at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam in Rabat from Thursday.
“It’s awesome to be back in Morocco. Rabat and this whole event is amazing. Being here with the men is really fun!” she said, referring to the fact that the Hassan II Golf Trophy is played over the adjacent Red Course concurrently.
“The course here in Rabat is a lot different to Palm Golf Ourika and Amelkis Golf in Marrakech, in that there are narrower fairways and more trees. The only similarity really is the weather.
“I’m hitting the ball well and I’ve got my caddie here, so I feel really comfortable. I would love a Moroccan double: that would be incredible!”
Danielson arrives in Morocco ranked 14th on the LET order of merit after playing in four co-sanctioned tournaments in Australia, during which time she posted MC-T15-T7-T2nd in the Oates Vic Open, ActewAGAL Canberra Classic, Bonville Ladies Classic and Women’s NSW Open respectively.
After steadily improving week by week, she spent some time at home before playing in the recent LET Access Series event at Terre Blanche. She then took the opportunity to enjoy a week’s holiday in the south of France before travelling to Morocco.
Speaking about her first three months on tour, she said: “The experience of being able to travel and see new places is really fun and exciting. I’m definitely learning a lot. The other thing about the LET is I’ve met so many new people and I have so many new friends that it’s fun coming to the events. I’ve only been a member since December and I already feel like a part of the tour, which says a lot about the tour and organisation.”
