Christina at The 2009 Solheim Cup |
U.S. Solheim Cup star Christina Kim will take centre stage at this week’s Carta Sì Ladies Italian Open, from Thursday 15th to Saturday 18th October, at Le Rovedine Milano Golf Club in Milan.
Kim has received an invitation to play in the 108-woman field and joins European Solheim Cup players Laura Davies, Tania Elosegui, Becky Brewerton and Diana Luna.
Kim has already seen the sights in Rome and explained why she is competing: “I’m looking forward to playing in the Italian Open. It really worked out just perfect – I’ve never been to Milan and it’s such an exciting place with all the fashion. But, also, with the way the schedule worked out, I had an opening and I’ve wanted to go over and compete on the LET and see how I stack up against all the great players over there.”
She continued, “I’ve never been to Italy, I am so thrilled, excited and honoured to be attending this year: playing some fantastic golf, enjoying the sights, shopping, and spending time with some of the best female golfers in the world!”
The two-time winner on the US LPGA Tour added: “I am friends with many of the LET players: Becky Brewerton, Melissa Reid, Giulia Sergas, Martina Eberl, Stefanie Michl, Trish Johnson, Tania Elosegui, the list goes on and on! Obviously I come to the week wanting to win. I have been playing some very good golf and look forward to playing some exciting golf. I also would like to get to know more of the players, as well as leave Italy with having had an incredible experience.”
Kim displayed her stellar talents to a European audience at The 2009 Solheim Cup at Rich Harvest Farms in August when she won three points for the USA, including a crucial point against Tania Elosegui in the singles on the final day to clinch the Cup for the US team.
In addition to her Solheim Cup colleagues, who are all winners on the LET this year, Kim will also be joined by 2009 LET champions Linda Wessberg, Marianne Skarpnord, Jade Schaeffer, Beatriz Recari, Nicole Gergely and Felicity Johnson.
Le Rovedine Milano Golf Club will be hosting the Ladies European Tour for the first time and is located just a 10 minute drive from the city centre. This will also be Carta Sì’s first time as title sponsor.
Following two rounds a cut will be made to the leading 50 professionals plus ties and the winner will receive a cheque for €30,000.
