She said that she was enjoying her time in the United States but also pleased to be back in Europe: “I love everything about Europe. Sometimes we have bad conditions with the weather but I love Europe. The ambience between players is great and we get along very well. It’s nice to be around nice people and to have fun playing. It’s nice to be back here and playing with friends.”

Four-time major winner Laura Davies, who has won 74 career titles, was looking forward to the challenge of the 6411-yard par 72 layout, but was not intending to play a practise round before the Pro Am.

“I’ve heard the course is a course I might like: it’s quite flat, quite open. I’ve never been there before so we’ll see,” said Davies, who recently won her second tournament of the season at the UniCredit Ladies German Open. Earlier this year Davies earned her first title of the season at the Pegasus New Zealand Women’s Open, hosted by Christchurch.

On the home front, the likes of Christel Boeljon, Marjet van der Graaff and Kyra van Leeuwen will be seeking their first individual victory, although Boeljon and van der Graaff triumphed as a team at last year’s Comunitat Valenciana European Nations Cup.

Golfclub Broekpolder, designed by Gerard Jol, opened in 1983 and is a parkland layout featuring water and a variety of trees. The club has hosted many national tournaments and is also the home club of Marjet van der Graaff.
