A lucky group of 24 junior girls and boys from Gullane met up with 8 pros from LET and LPGA for an inspiring junior activity hosted by Gullane Golf Club. LET professionals Camilla Lennarth, Karoline Lund, Felicity Johnson, Kelsey MacDonald, Michele Thomson and Vikki Laing and LPGA professionals Karrie Webb and IK Kim each hosted a group of 3 juniors. The juniors received advice in putting and chipping and had the opportunity to ask questions about golf and life on tour before playing a four hole Junior Pro-Am, which included one-hole played as ‘Speed golf’ and three holes played as a Texas Scramble.
Karoline Lund’s team won both the Junior Pro-Am and the Speed golf on the par-5 second hole with 2 minutes 5 seconds. Local star Kelsey MacDonald said: “It is nice to see the positive spirit and the excitement among the children. I remembered myself when I was young how inspiring it was to meet with professional golfers and how it created memories for a lifetime”. Gullane Golf Club, with its Head PGA Professional Alasdair Good, have a strong junior development program and enjoyed seeing the interaction between the professionals and the juniors. “For our juniors, it gives them an incredible opportunity to develop the game by meeting the best golfers and the chance to interact with them and get advice. It highlights not only women’s golf but also junior golf which is important for us here at Gullane”. 11 year old Grace Crawford, playing off 5.6 hcp, was hosted by Karrie Webb and played today in the ASI Ladies Scottish Open Pro-Am. “Playing with Karrie was a good experience for me and I learned a lot. I enjoyed the different clinics and the speed golf and we had a lot of fun with the professionals.”
In addition to the Junior Pro-Am several other development activities have and will take place at the ASI Ladies Scottish Open. LET professionals Nicole Garcia and Valdis Thora Jonsdottir met up with junior girls from the Scottish Golf Academy to speak about golf preparations and give advice on how to develop the game. The Q&A was followed by a behind the scenes tour of the event and a visit and interactive tour of the TV-production compound to get an overall idea of life on tour. The activity ended with a donation from the LET to the Scottish Golf Girls’ Development program.
On the first tournament day, the event will be visited by girls from Scotland Golf’s #THISGIRLGOLFS campaign. They are coming out to get inspired and learn more about golf and watch the professionals as they take on the first day of the event.
