European Team captain Helen Alfredsson
Q. Helen, how important was the match with Sophie Gustafson and Suzann Pettersen?
Alfredsson: All the points we can get is very important. It’s nice.
Q. What makes these two so effective together, Alfie?
Alfredsson: I think even though they’re not playing their best, they keep fighting. Both them are the kind players that you want to have. They don’t feel bad. They push each other and hit the shots when they need to, and obviously they came through at the very end, which is great.
Q. Pretty big last putt?
Alfredsson: Absolutely. This is what it’s all about. And the players know that.
Catriona Matthew and Annika Sorenstam, Europe
Q. How much pressure was on that putt?
Matthew: I think our legs were shaking on that putt. It was only probably 3 feet, but it seemed a very long 3 feet.
Q. With all your experience, Annika, 5-up, 6 to play and they will not go away.
Sorenstam: It was quite the match, I must say. They started to play awesome golf. They were making a lot of birdies and not pars. It was a great match. I thought it was a lot of fun. You know, this is what it’s all about. We’ll see. We were happy to get a point in the end.
