England’s Samantha Head

(Thursday 17th September 2009) — Samantha Head and Anna Tybring held the first round lead early on day one at the Randstad Open de France Dames.

England’s Head – who won her last Ladies European Tour title in 2001 – fired six birdies and three bogeys for a three-under 69.

Tybring birdied the third and fifth going out, a birdie at the 18th lifting the Swede into a tie at the top of the leaderboard.

Defending champion Anja Monke, who started at the 10th, eagled the 13th and then birdied the 14th, which lifted her into a tie at the top of the leader board, but she slipped back with a bogey at the first.

South Korean rookie Jessica Ji birdied the 11th, 13th, 15th and 17th to get to four-under, but double bogeyed the par-five 18th for an outward 32.

Monke, Ji and Finland’s Ursula Wikstrom still had a good chance of seizing the lead on a sunny afternoon at Le Golf D’Arras.
