The Hero Women’s Indian Open has announced a 25 per cent increase in prize money for the 2018 tournament and the purse now stands at US$500,000: a rise of $100,000 on 2017.
For the first time this year, the tournament will be played over four rounds, from Thursday 18th to Sunday 21st October, with live international television coverage each day from DLF Golf and Country Club.
The Hero Women’s Open was first contested in 2007 with a purse of US $100,000. Since its debut on the Ladies European Tour in 2010, the event has produced excitement and prolific champions, including the likes of Dame Laura Davies, Pornanong Phatlum and Caroline Hedwall.
It attracts the best talent from across the globe with the majority of players coming from Europe and Asia, offering an opportunity for talented young Indian women golfers to test their skills against their counterparts from overseas.
In 2016, Olympian Aditi Ashok, who had used the Hero Women’s Indian Open as a platform to develop her game from a young age, became the first Indian player to win on the Ladies European Tour at DLF Golf & Country Club, before clinching the LET’s Rookie of the Year prize.
In 2017, the LET, WGAI and Golfing Union of India, supported by The R&A, were proud to continue this legacy by initiating an achievers’ camp for young girls from across India. The professional golfers shared their skills and knowledge, educating and empowering the next generation to pursue their talents and follow their dreams.
