Former European No.1 Iben Tinning from Denmark has announced that she will step away from competition at the end of the 2010 Ladies European Tour season. The Omega Dubai Ladies Masters is likely to be her last event when the season finale is played from December 8-11 at Emirates Golf Club in the UAE.
“It’s a judicious decision as I have planned it for over a year,” said the 36-year-old four time Solheim Cup star, who won the LET’s Henderson Money List in 2005.
“I am looking primarily for a balanced life with my family. It will be nice to get a little peace of mind and not be under pressure every week although it is surely something I will miss,” said the five-time tournament winner.
“My career ending has actually been planned for over a year and stems from several factors. Being with the family is the most important one and it was getting harder and harder to leave home.
“In addition, I have not played a round of golf or taken a single step recently without pain in my hip, and it has hindered my game. Since my hip operation two years ago, my body has simply been worn out. I am not slipping away; I still play solid golf and have seldom worked as hard as I have this year, but the timing’s just right for me, “said Tinning, who has a four-year-old son, called Mads.
As well as being a mother, Tinning plans to pursue business interests within the golf industry. “I’m going to give lectures, and have plans to publish a book. Me and my mental coach, Bjarne Lellek, are now coaching Lisa Holm Sorensen and Monica Christiansen. Bjarne and I will also do some other projects together. Now we will see what pops up,” said Tinning, who is looking forward to a much needed physical rest.
