(Porthcawl, August 24 2002) England’s Johanna Head is on course for her first Tour victory as she takes a three shot lead into the final round of the £400,000 Wales WPGA Championship of Europe at Royal Porthcawl GC after a blustery afternoon by the Bristol Channel.
The 29-year-old twin from Surrey fired a two under par 71 which included five birdies for an eight under par aggregate.

Head, runner up twice on Tour, began her day with a double bogey after failing to get out of a fairway bunker at the first attempt. And seeing playing partner Tinning crumble to four over par after three, inspired her to keep her cool and raise her concentration.
Birdies followed at the fifth, seventh and eight to turn in one under par, taking the lead from Hjorth who posted early in the day.
A 60-degree wedge from 40 yards at the 12th saw another red figure on the board, but three putts at the 14th nullified that. And with the wind reaching up to 35 mph, Head birdied the par five 16th to move three clear.
“I don’t know what I was thinking at the first hole,” said Head, twin sister of fellow Evian Tourist Samantha.
“I just didn’t have a shot out of that bunker and I don’t know why I even thought about playing it. But that made me concentrate harder and seeing Iben in a bit of trouble, I just kept calm and worked on my own game.
“Tomorrow, and I know it’s a cliché but I will go out and take it one hole at a time. On this course, you cannot think ahead and you must think well on this course, it’s imperative.
“I can’t wait, I would go out right now and play if I could.”
