“It was more difficult today as there were a lot of cross winds out there and we got a couple wrong on the first and the 18th,” she said.
England’s Laura Davies, who shared the best score of the day with Morgan, had a solid 67 which included three straight birdies from the 15th on the back nine.
“It was harder today but overall a nice second round,” said Davies, who has won 66 tournaments including five majors.
“Kirsty’s obviously playing very well and its impressive to come out with a score like that after a good round. I always find that difficult so she’s obviously mentally very strong.”
Johnson, the defending champion, is still in the hunt after a mixed bag with seven birdies and five bogeys for a 70, which she branded, “a struggle”.
Coakley, a 24-year-old rookie who represents Ireland but is originally from Adelaide, is up on the leader board after two steady rounds of 67 and 68. She had the best score in the worst of the windy afternoon conditions yesterday: “The wind was a bit tougher yesterday but its different today, its coming across,” she added.
“When I started yesterday it was very tough and you had to take three clubs difference. I’ve had a couple of disappointing weeks so this score makes up for it.”
