A longest drive contest for professional players took place on the terrace at the Denia Marriott La Sella Hotel on Saturday evening.
Players hit over the outdoor swimming pool onto the driving range from an elevated terrace accompanied by the sounds of a brass band.
Sophie Gustafson of Sweden hit the longest shot measuring 256 metres, however, the players decided to give the first prize cheque for €1000 to Finland’s Jenni Kuosa, who drove in her car to the tournament all the way from Helsinki after planes were grounded last week due to the volcanic ash dust cloud.
Gustafson received the runner-up cheque for €500, while Becky Brewerton of Wales and Cecilie Lundgreen from Norway came third and fourth respectively with drives of 243 and 238 metres.
