There are 45 Ladies European Tour members in the field and 55 Korean players including both of the former champions, Ryu and LET rookie Jeehae Lee. There are seven additional players invited by the sponsors. Headlining that list is the 2007 Ryder Cup Wales Rookie of the Year Louise Stahle of Sweden, who came close to securing her LET card with her tie for 15th at last week’s Suzhou Taihu Ladies Open in China.
Duramed FUTURES Tour star Jennifer Song of the USA is also in the field. Song turned professional in June of 2010, after playing two years at the University of Southern California. She won her professional debut on the FUTURES Tour at the Tate & Lyle Players Championship, carded a second win at the Greater Richmond Golf Classic, and finished second on the season-ending money list promoting her to the LPGA Tour in 2011.
England’s Danielle Bowers, who resides in Perth, Australia, has also been invited along with Korea professionals Shi Hyun Ahn and Aree Song as well as amateurs Julie Yang, the 15-year-old Welsh Ladies Open champion and Hyo-Joo Kim, who won the 2010 girls golf section of the R&A Junior Open played at Lundin Links Golf Course, Fife, Scotland.
Haevichi Country Club Jeju opened with 27 holes in 1999 and the most recent nine, called the ‘Lake’ course, was added in 2007. The ocean-side course features wide open greens, native trees, typically volcanic stone walls. It was the venue for the recent Korean-Japanese professional golf team match in September and was designed by renowned Korean firm Jang GOLF.
