PRETORIA (11 March 2005) – Laurette Maritz birdied her final two holes for a two-stroke victory in the Telkom Women’s Classic at Zwartkop Country Club on Friday, which sets her up for a year that she hopes will see her claim victory in Europe as well.

“When I was missing all those birdie putts my caddie told me to just keep going because I was hitting the ball great,” Maritz said.

She added another birdie at 17, but was at this stage unaware of her two-stroke lead over Cvitan at the time.

“I didn’t know the situation on the leaderboard because I don’t like looking at the on-course leaderboards while I’m playing,” she said. “I’ve always found that I tend to get ahead of myself then. So when I walked onto the 18th green that’s the first time I saw that I was ahead.”

A birdie at the last secured her third victory on the Nedbank Women’s Golf Tour in the last two years, while Cvitan birdied her final three holes for sole second place.

The Tour moves to Killarney Golf Club next week for the Nedbank Women’s SA Masters, the final event of the season.
