Among the ten Scottish professionals competing is Lynn Kenny from nearby Stirling, who is attached to Archerfield Links. The 30-year-old is enjoying a solid season on the Ladies European Tour, currently lying in 61st position on the Henderson Money List. She is hoping that her local knowledge will be an advantage this week and said: “If I could win it here, it would be amazing. Words can’t explain how I’d feel. It would mean the world to me.
“I’m really excited to play at Archerfield on the course I’m attached to. It’s a privilege and the place is looking fantastic. It’s in great condition and the girls are loving it, from what I’ve heard. It’s fantastic. It’s a nice format this week and not too serious as it’s a Pro Am format so it should be good fun.
“I’ve been playing it for four or five years now so I’ll maybe know things that I don’t realise I know, it will show up over the next three days. I’ll know where there are run offs, where you can go and can’t go, but perhaps the girls will have picked up on that in their practise rounds; I just don’t know.
“I’ve had a good season so far but unfortunately the last few weeks I’ve struggled a bit. Qualifying for the British, my first major, was a huge pinnacle for me. I got through a playoff which showed me that I could do it under pressure. I played some shots under pressure in the playoff and I came through that. I did well in the British but got the bad side of the draw. I loved that experience but it drained me a little and I went into Ireland a little bit tired mentally. I’ve had a couple of days at home and I’ve seen my coach yesterday and I’m just feeling totally brand new and refreshed and ready to go.”
Solheim Cup star Mhairi McKay makes a return to Scotland from America and the 35-year-old, who tied for 17th in the 2008 event at The Carrick on Loch Lomond, will be aiming to please the home galleries.
