European Solheim Cup Captain Alison Nicholas, Vice-Captain Joanne Morley and Laura Davies discussing designs at Paul Costelloe’s London studio

Irish Fashion designer Paul Costelloe has been announced as the official designer of The 2011 European Solheim Cup Team for the Opening Ceremony and the Gala Dinner. The Solheim Cup comes to Killeen Castle, Meath, this September 23rd – 25th and is the most prestigious international team event in women’s professional golf and one of the biggest international sporting events to be staged in Ireland this year with Europe and the USA competing for the coveted trophy.

This is not the first time that Paul Costelloe has designed wardrobes in the sports domain, he has also designed for the Partners of the European Ryder Cup teams at the past three tournaments and England’s Women’s Cricket Team.

Speaking about the announcement Paul Costelloe said, “I am more than delighted to be designing the wardrobe for the European Team for the Solheim Cup.  It is an honour, especially as it is being played in my native Ireland for the first time, at the splendid Killeen Castle.  It is a pleasure working with the Ladies European Tour for the first time and with the Captain Alison Nicholas. I am confident that the European Tour will look good and feel comfortable at the opening Ceremony and gala dinner, dressed in the wardrobe from Paul Costelloe.”

The staging of The 2011 Solheim Cup in Ireland is set to be worth a projected benefit of just under €35 million to the Irish economy, providing a welcome boost for the tourism sector. Along with the tens of thousands of spectators, up to 500 international media are expected to descend on Killeen Castle in an event that will provide Ireland with phenomenal global exposure, including television coverage to over 400 million homes worldwide.

Alison Nicholas, The 2011 European Solheim Cup Captain, said “I consider it a real privilege that Paul Costelloe has designed and supplied the European Solheim Cup Team opening ceremony and gala dinner outfits. He is a fabulous designer and I would like to thank him for his support in creating such stylish clothes for the team.”
