Welsh LET player Rhian Wyn Thomas had a chance to show her Ryder Cup style as she modelled in a fashion show for the wives and girlfriends of the Ryder Cup players at the Millennium Centre in Cardiff Bay on Tuesday.

The six-foot tall blonde walked the catwalk wearing clothes designed by Newport students while the WAGs completed score cards to rate the outfits. The show was hosted by TV personality Sian Lloyd.

“The fashion show was pretty amazing. I still can’t believe I walked in those heels,” revealed the 23-year-old first year LET player from the town of Llanybyther in Ceredigion. “They were about four inches and were the biggest heels I’ve ever worn to walk in.”

Rhian has modelled in the past but she added: “I don’t wear heels very often because I’m six foot. I respect the models that do London Fashion Week because it goes on for hours and my fashion show was only half an hour and my feet were painful!”

Rhian is at The Ryder Cup working as part of the studio commentary team for the Welsh language broadcaster S4/C. As an expert on golf, she has been interviewed on a range of subjects including golf fashion.

When asked if she would like to go into television after her career in professional golf, Rhian said: “I don’t know about that! If I wasn’t playing golf I’d rather go to the modelling side, but I’d rather do photo shoots than catwalk because I can’t walk in heels!”

Rhian also attended the Welcome to Wales concert at the Millennium Stadium featuring a host of Welsh stars from entertainment including Catherine Zeta Jones, Katherine Jenkins, the Lost Prophets, Only Men Aloud, Shaheen Jafargholi and Dame Shirley Bassey, hosted by Steve Jones.

Rhian’s prediction was for a European victory and she was excited about being on the first tee for the matches.

“It’s going to be bad weather and the Americans, in the practice rounds, half of them only played nine holes, probably because it was raining. I have a good feeling about Europe and I’m quite looking forward to seeing Lee Westwood playing.”

“It’s been an exciting week altogether,” said Rhian. “Cardiff is buzzing. Everyone has got a great feeling and it’s just great to be there and having The Ryder Cup in Wales.”
