(Helsingborg, August 18 2002) World number one Annika Sorenstam cruised to her eighth victory of the season with a final round two under par 70 to lift the Compaq Open title at Vasatorp GC in Helsingborg.
The 31-year-old Swede reached 18 under par for the £40,750 winners prize in a scintillating display over four rounds to win by five shots from compatriot Sophie Gustafson, who with her last round 66, secured second spot and almost guaranteed her place in the 2002 Solheim Cup earning 36 points, taking her to fifth in the 2002 Solheim rankings.
