(Helsingborg, August 15 2002) World number one Annika Sorenstam bounced back from the ignominy of missing cut the Weetabix Women’s British Open and showed an immediate return to top form by breezing into a share of the first round lead with compatriot Sophie Gustafson at the £325,000 Compaq Open at Vasatorp GC in Helsingborg.
England’s Johanna Head made a welcome return back to Europe with an enjoyable and solid opening 68 to share third place with Becky Morgan from Wales.
And five players share fifth place on three under including Lora Fairclough from England, Australian Jane Leary, Marieke Zelsmann from The Netherlands, Liselotte Neumann from Sweden and Spain’s Paula Marti, who bogeyed the final two holes for her 69.
