How pleased are you with your round today?
I don’t know. It felt more work then yesterday. It felt like I left a couple out there today but I’ve been playing with Amy for three rounds and we’ve both been playing well and making a lot of birdies so that’s a nice thing, to push each other.
You’ve been striking it beautifully and hadn’t made a birdie until the 14th. What happened?
I was a bit disappointed. One little bad drive and I didn’t leave myself in the best position. I didn’t get up and down so that’s not so good for my stats but I’ll take one bogey for three rounds.
The scoring record for three rounds in a 72-hole tournament is 18-under which you’ve already broken with 22-under. The record for four rounds is 25 on the LET by Laura and 27 on the LPGA by Annika. Is that something you have in mind?
Those are pretty good names but I’m just trying to go out there and make more birdies.
You have the 54 for vision 54 on your cap. Are you trying to birdie every hole?
Well it’s pretty much the intention when you start on the first hole but this course is all about getting the ball in play and from there trying to be very aggressive. Eight under of course is a great round but it still feels like I left a couple out there but I’m in a good position.
Are you aware of the scoring records? Do you pay attention to them?
Not really. I have my own little goals and we’ll see where it takes me.
Amy Yang 67-68-65=200 (-16)
What went right and what went wrong today?
I was pretty nervous for the first few holes but it got better and better. I just played comfortable.
What will you do tomorrow?
Suzann is such a great player so I will try my best.
There are a lot of great women in Korea playing golf. What is the reason for that?
I think it’s because of Se Ri Pak. She won a lot of tournaments and I think that’s why everyone started to play golf.
Do you think it is because of the mentality of the East Asia people?
I think they practise really hard but I think lately everyone practises really hard.
Seven under today. Can you talk us through your round?
The first couple of holes I was nervous and I started with a bogey but I settled down.
How good an experience was it for you to play with the number three player in the world?
I think she just plays so easily. Every time she hit the fairway, hit the green and one putt. She plays easily.
Can you compare yourself to her?
I thought I was practicing hard enough but after three rounds of playing golf with her I feel I need to practise more and more.
What parts of her game are stronger than yours?
I think maybe the short game, putting, and when she gets into trouble she always saves par.
You’re a few shots behind going into the final day. Do you think you’ve got a chance of taking the title from her?
She is playing so well but I’ll try my best.
Were you aware before you teed off that you were going to win an Omega watch for a hole-in-one?
No. It was about 145 yards and I hit a soft seven-iron but I couldn’t see it because of the bushes. I thought, “Wow!” That was my first hole-in-one.
Gwladys Nocera 70-69-62=201 (-15)
A great round of golf today Gwladys. A 62 beats your course records from two years ago. How was it?
It was fun. I played really well. I don’t think I could have hit the ball better than I did today. I left three birdies: two were less than three metres. I was getting frustrated because I have been hitting the ball so good. Yesterday I hit 18 greens and I just made three-under. I was just thinking, “Okay I need to make putts now because I know I can shoot low.” After 15 Raf said, “You know if you make three birdies you break your own record?” and I said: “Don’t worry I have that in mind.” It was fun.
At any stage were you thinking of shooting in the 50s?
No. I think even ten-under is pretty good. I didn’t even think about shooting ten under. I just wanted to play my game and pretty much make each second shot in the hole. That was the plan.
This was the scene of your maiden victory in 2006 so Losone must have a special place in your heart.
Yes. It feels really good to be back here. Last year was tough. I had a hard time defending my title but I remember so many good things from two years ago. Even last year I didn’t play well but the course is great, I love it and the greens are perfect. I think this is the place for me.
As it stands you are ay 15 under. Do you think you can catch Suzann tomorrow?
We’ll see tomorrow. Even if I finish second behind her it’s still a great performance I think. I’m just going to play my game and try to see how I stand behind her.
Hopefully a 61 tomorrow?
Okay, let’s do it.
