Norwegian golfer Suzann Pettersen will be a favourite for the title. Last season, in her fifth year as a professional, she won her first major title in America at the LPGA Championship and is currently third in the Rolex World rankings.
Pettersen will make her debut in Losone, but Nocera will return for the third time. The five time LET champion has the advantage that she holds the course record after shooting a 63 on the 5,656 metre par-72 course.
Britain’s Lisa Hall, the current New Star Money List leader, is also one to watch closely. The in-form Hall won February’s ANZ Ladies Masters in Australia.
Although the Swiss competitors may be seen as outsiders in their home tournament, Florence Lüscher and Nora Angehrn have safely qualified for the Deutsche Bank Ladies’ Swiss Open. Frédérique Seeholzer, who led the field on the first day last year and was still in third place after the second round, may compete on an invitation. “Playing in such a tournament on home ground is both a challenge and motivation in one,” said Nora Angehrn.
Deutsche Bank AG has also implemented further improvements in its function as a promoter and sponsor with investments in the infrastructure of the event on the shores of Lake Maggiore.
The Players Lounge, the exhibition area and the public zone “Piazza” will now located close to the Club house enhance to create an intimate ambience to the event. The Champions’ Pavilion will be located between the Club house and the driving range and additional catering facilities are now to be found on holes 8 and 12.
Visitors can once again count on an attractive supporting programme with The “Golf and Fun for Kids”, “Golf Clinic” and the popular “Beat-the-Pro” events being staged throughout the four days of the tournament in Ascona on the shores of Lago Maggiore.
“We want to offer our guests a whole world of golfing experiences along with professional sport,” says Hanns Michael Hoelz. “Everyone here should enjoy themselves. This has all only been made possible thanks to our sponsors, especially Omega, Zurich Financial Services, Hugo Boss and Mercedes-Benz, and the outstanding cooperation of Ticino Turismo (the Tessin Tourist Board).”
