It’s difficult to know where to start with this newsletter as since I last wrote to you all in February quite a lot has happened.

I played four tournaments in Australia, New Zealand and Morocco, and then played the first Major of the year, the Kraft Nabisco in Palm Springs. I didn’t feel too sharp in the first four events having spent the winter back home in the snow, but they were a good warm up for the year. The Kraft Nabisco was just as awesome as I’d expected, it really was mind blowing and I was happy enough with my 34th place. I came away really looking forward to going back next year.

It was then time for our European swing to start. On the way to the tournament in Turkey I went to Paris to take part in a shoot for Evian’s “The Baby Inside Campaign”. The campaign is due to run over the summer months. The two weeks since then have been pretty special. I’m still on cloud nine after my win in Turkey. It feels as amazing as I thought it would do. I really felt that I was ready to win so it was great to get the job done, but it wasn’t easy. It makes all the hard work worthwhile and I feel that however painful the 2nd and 3rd places were during the past couple of years, it has only made me a stronger player. I didn’t really get much me to let it sink in as I flew home for one day to see my friends and family and then went straight to the German Ladies Open on the Monday night.

It was a weird feeling in Germany as I had discovered a new lease of confidence about my game, that I hadn’t felt since I was an amateur. I put myself in contention again in Germany but unfortunately my putter went cold in the last 27 holes and I lost out by two strokes to Laura Davies. It was a fun week and being given the use of an Audi cabriolet for the week certainly added to it.

The first people I rang after winning in Turkey were my parents, and they were well on their way to celebrating! I’ve received so many messages from so many people, many of whom will be reading this. If I haven’t thanked you personally I’d like to thank you now, it’s fantastic to feel the support from you all and I really appreciate it. I’m now at home for a week off, choosing various fittings for the new house which will be ready in June. I’ve also been looking into breeders of Labrador puppies as that was a little promise I made myself if I won – a chocolate Labrador puppy! I plan to visit the BMW PGA European Tour event at Wentworth over the weekend and then next week we head off to Slovakia for our next LET tournament. Overall, a fantastic two weeks for me and I feel I have taken my game to another level after my win; it’s just made me even more hungrier to win and to work hard. Winning is an addictive feeling.

Thanks,
Mel.
