Frances Bondad (beat Karen Lunn 3&2)
What was the key?
Just keeping it in play and making lots of putts. I just played pretty solid, pretty boring, but I made a lot of putts.
What is your plan of attack for the final round of Strokeplay?
I’m just going to go for it. Its guaranteed money so I’m just happy to get through. I’m going to keep playing the way I’m playing the last few days. I made five birdies, so it was not too bad. Hopefully I can take it into the Swiss next week.
Rebecca Hudson (beat Morgana Robbertze 3&2)
How do you assess your day?
I knew it would be a tough match with Morgana. She’s a long hitter, so some of the par fives are reachable. I just had to play steady and played quite nicely. I holed a second shot on the fourth and holing things like that is rather useful. It got me to two up and then I just hit fairways and greens.
Everyone enjoys being ahead. It’s a case of when you’re ahead, play a little bit sensibly, don’t lose holes to pars, make them birdie and try and stay there.
Will the change of format change the way you’re playing?
Over putts today just for the half, you hit the ball and you’re not worried where it goes and you hole more putts that way. A little bit of keeping that positivity but we’ve all led an event after one round. It’s just a one round free for all: great fun, great to be in Tenerife, enjoy the day. You’ve just got to everything you can and go for everything.
Carlota Ciganda (beat Beth Allen 1 UP)
Talk us through your round…
It was a really tough day. I played great golf. I wasn’t very comfortable with my driver but my short game was very good, so I am very happy to play tomorrow. It was a great match against Beth Allen. She was a great competitor.
What was your goal?
I was trying to hit fairways and greens, I tried to have fun as always and it was a great day.
Are you exceeding your own expectations in this tournament?
I’m just trying to focus on my game and playing golf. I know there are expectations and things but I cannot control that. I’m just trying to focus on things that I can control.
The pressure will be on you in the final day now as the only Spanish player.
I’m very happy that I’m playing tomorrow. I’m sorry for Tania because she’s a great player. She has been playing great but that’s golf and only one player can win in matchplay. I will go out there and play my best as always and hopefully have a great day.
Lydia Hall (beat Felicity Johnson 4&3)
Talk us through your round…
I played solidly today. Hit a few fairways and hit a few close shots and putted really well, so it was just a solid day.
Did you go out with a particular game plan?
No, it’s just a huge difference playing matchplay to Strokeplay and I haven’t played matchplay since I was an amateur, so four years ago. It’s really good; I really enjoy matchplay. I think it’s just really important to get that first point and once you stay one up it’s staying in that position and not letting the opponent come in and get a point.
I think yesterday I got up the first hole and stayed that way again today. I got one-up after the first hole and I stayed that way. I think it’s hugely important to stay in that position and dominate.
So matchplay is hugely psychological?
Definitely. If you get in that position and you’re dominating and playing steady golf it’s very difficult to get in the driving seat from that.
Are you confident for the Strokeplay?
I’m playing really solid, I was two under today through 15 holes and yesterday I was three under, so I’m playing solid golf and I think tomorrow, I will attack on the par fives and hopefully hole a few more putts. I’m enjoying Tenerife and the golf course is great.
Lee-Anne Pace (beat Stacy Lee Bregman 1 UP)
Talk us through your round…
A pretty solid round. I think I only made one bogey, not a lot of birdies, even though I hit it quite close but so did Stacy. It was a good match.
Were you nervous at the end?
I was a bit actually, which is good, because it’s nice to feel nerves coming down the last hole. Bad luck to Stacy because she did hit it quite well and just didn’t make the putts.
Is this some of the best golf you’ve played this season?
No, I wouldn’t say so. I played quite well in Australia and also in Slovakia, so my game is coming back and I’m excited for the next couple of weeks.
Are you going to change anything?
No. I hit it pretty close. I’m going for a low round so maybe going for a couple more pins tomorrow and being a little more aggressive.
