Holly Clyburn will partner Europe’s Solheim Cup captain Catriona Matthew (GBR) in the women’s team event at the Gleneagles PGA Centenary Course this week.

Holly won her sole LET title as a rookie at the 2013 Deloitte Ladies Open in the Netherlands and she is looking forward to playing with Matthew, who has six wins on the LET, including the 2009 Ricoh Women’s British Open.

“She is a very experienced player and it will be reassuring to be playing alongside her. She is a very calm person. I’m certain she will be a big help to me.

“Hopefully I can impress her enough to be picked for the Solheim Cup team. It is every golfer’s ambition to play in that competition (which is being staged on this same Centenary Course in 2019).”

British women’s golf received a massive boost after Georgia Hall (GBR) won the Women’s Open at the weekend and Holly continued:

“It is fantastic for her and fantastic for British golf. It will give everyone a lift hopefully for this tournament.

clyb”I wouldn’t say Georgia and I are particularly close but we’ve played in team events before in our amateur days and I know what a good player she is.”
Hall will partner veteran Laura Davies in the five day event, which includes a mixed foursomes stroke play event on Saturday, after the first three rounds.
