Beware Jarand Ekeland ARNOY and Kristian Krogh JOHANNESSEN (NOR): the ice-cool Icelanders are after you in the men’s golf team event at the Gleneagles PGA Centenary Course.
Birgir HAFTHORSSON (ISL) and Axel BOASSON (ISL) pulled off another stunning win on Thursday, which included HAFTHORSSON dropping the ball straight into the 14th hole out of a bunker.

“I have to apologise for that,” HAFTHORSSON modestly said, indicating luck was involved.

But what HAFTHORSSON did not mention was that his tricky shot was delayed for five minutes while a ruling was made about his Italian opponent’s shot out of the bunker that had dropped right back in the sand by the Icelander’s ball.

Talk about cool; HAFTHORSSON had glacial nerves.

Iceland’s 2&1 victory over Lorenzo GAGLI (ITA) and Guido MIGLIOZZI (ITA) featured a tremendous fightback after the Italians had set a fierce early pace.

It followed HAFTHORSSON and BOASSON’S 6&5 demolition of Belgium’s Christopher MIVIS and Lars BUIJS on Wednesday.

Iceland are second in group D behind the Norwegians and Friday is shoot-out day to finish top and qualify for the semifinals.

Britain’s Callum SHINKWIN and Lee SLATTERY had a good recovery day after a disappointing halved match on Wednesday.

Their big 6&5 victory over Per LANGFORS (SWE) and Johan EDFORS (SWE) puts them back in the qualification race at the top of group A.
