Inspired by their friend Céline Boutier’s victory on Sunday, French rookie Manon Mollé and compatriot Justine Dreher both featured prominently on the leader board on day one of the Women’s New South Wales Open, on five and four-under respectively.
Mollé, who is playing in her fourth tournament as a professional at Coffs Harbour Golf Club, said that there is a great spirit amongst the group of young French players.
She said: “I’m having a blast so far! I’m really happy my pro debut was in Australia because I’ve never been before and it’s totally insane: it’s a dream come true to be here. We are a group of seven French players and I love it, because I fit in it so well and I’m really happy here.
“Céline’s victory inspired everyone: French people and internationals. She deserves it – she really does – and it makes us want to continue to win more tournaments on the LET for French players.”
Mollé and Dreher took time out from their fortnight in Coffs Harbour to visit the stunning Crystal Shower Falls within the Dorrigo National Park on Monday, which gave them a fresh perspective and Dreher said that it’s no wonder the French are playing so well.
“I don’t think it’s a coincidence. I think the French players, we have a really good group and we push each other. I think the fact that Céline and Camille (Chevalier) won last year showed us that any one of us could do it and it was really nice to share a victory with one of your friends when they win. Pushing each other on is the key. Watch out for the French!” she smiled.
