Britain will lead the way in the revolutionary mixed team event, with three powerful line-ups among the 11 teams competing on Saturday 11 August at the Gleneagles PGA Centenary Course.

The format for the tournament is foursomes stroke play, with a man and a woman in the same team playing alternate shots using the same ball.

Their total for the 18 holes will be added to a team from the same nation, and the lowest combined total wins the gold medal.

There will be a separate match for the bronze medal between the two losing semifinalists. If two nations finish on the same aggregate score, the medals will be decided by a hole-by-hole sudden-death play off.

The British number one team team will be favourites for the gold medal and will feature Laura DAVIES and Callum SHINKWIN combining their 18-hole score with Georgie HALL and Lee SLATTERY.

Britain’s number two line-up features Catriona MATTHEW and Charlie FORD combined with Holly CLYBURN and Rhys ENOCH, while the number three home nation team pairs Meghan MacLAREN and Liam JOHNSON with Michele THOMSON and Connor SYME.

Sweden will field two mixed combinations and Italy, Spain, Austria, Belgium, Iceland and Norway one each.
