Final round leader quotes

Caroline Masson (Germany) 70, 72, 70, 66=278 (-14)

How do you summarise your play today?
I played pretty good the whole two weeks actually. I played pretty well from stage one and just made some more putts today so that’s why I scored a little better. It was solid.

How did you make your eagle on 18?
I hit the green in two and then made the putt from about four metres.

How did you bogey the 16th?
I three-putted that.

What were your expectations this week?
It was difficult because I didn’t know what to expect. I was thinking that if I played well, like I had been playing all year, I could make the top 30; so that was my goal. I was just playing steady and kept cool and relaxed and it worked out well.

Will you turn pro now and play the full season on the LET next year?
Yes.

This was your first time here at Q School?
Yes. I was here at La Manga in November with a friend from the national team because we hadn’t played any tournaments here so we just prepared.

What are your hopes for your first year?
I don’t really know. I have played two tournaments before on the LET as an amateur and finished 30th or something like that. I played in Germany and Spain last year.
I just expect to play well and make some good finishes and maybe win a tournament. It is my goal to win a tournament but I don’t really know what to expect.

Kristie Smith (Australia) 71, 70, 69, 70=280 (-12)

How do you assess your performance?
Today was a good day. The whole two weeks that I was here were really good; I played solid for two weeks straight. I put the scores on the board and that’s what I felt I needed to do.

What were your expectations this week and how do you feel you lived up to them?
I had low expectations because I tried not to think about that. My dad actually won Q-School here back in ’86 and told me a little bit about the course, so I had some good feelings coming in here considering he won the Q-School back in ’86 that I could play well here.

What are your goals for 2010?
Goals… I haven’t really thought about them yet. I will go back and re-assess. My goal was to get on the European Tour and I’ve done that.

What plans for next year?
I’ll probably select a few events and play in the States. I’m on the Futures Tour and I’m based in Florida.

Kylie Walker (Scotland) 72, 73, 68, 73=286 (-6)

I played really good this morning. I made a lot of birdies but I think this afternoon I got a bit tired and frustrated at times and managed to shoot level. That was accurate for how I played.
I’ve not seen the schedule but I heard they have a lot of events in 2010 so I’ll have a look and see how it suits.

Carly Booth (Scotland) 70, 73, 72, 74=289 (-3)

I probably didn’t play my best today but I still played solid enough to get a good score in. I’m pleased. I will turn pro as soon as this is pretty much done with.
I’m still at school until June so I’ll probably play, but not in as many as if I wasn’t still at school. I’ll probably come out with my mum.

Third round leader quotes

Mariajo Uribe (Colombia)

Yesterday the couple of holes I played, I had a double and lost a couple of shots there. Today, we had really good weather so I kind of took advantage of that to shoot some under. I did lose some shots but I’m playing solid, I’m hitting the ball really well and I’ve got to work on my putts to make them fall.

Hannah Jun (USA)

The third round at Q-School was good. I got off to a really good start and made a good par save right before the horn blew so that was nice. Unfortunately I was one over for the three holes I played but it was a solid score.
We were pretty tired because we played 33 holes yesterday and that’s a lot of golf. There’s another break now.
Round four is just like any other round and we’ll try to get in as much golf as we can. Hopefully we’ll finish 18 today.

Kristie Smith (Australia)

It was really good. I played solid all day yesterday. Stated off a bit shaky and then had a run of birdies so the confidence went up a little bit. I finished off with a birdie yesterday so that was nice and came out firing again.
I’ve just got to keep my mind on the job, keep focused and shoot another round under par and we’ll be good.

Round two leader quotes

Kate Combes (Australia) 73-67=140 (-6)

Six birdies on the front nine: what made the difference?
I started on the back nine and probably that was the toughest part of the day. There was a lot of wind and it was very, very cold. I took it easier on the front nine and holed a lot of putts on the back. I hit 18 greens today with 30 putts so that was nice.

How confident do you feel?
I’m hitting it well so I definitely think it can continue. I want to get back on tour. My goal was to finish in the top ten.

How do you reflect on 2009?
This year’s been difficult sitting at home watching everyone out here. It’s been cold at home in winter. I’ve been practising a lot on my game in conditions like it is now here really. It’s just been getting warm at home, so it’s been a really cold winter and this is a good thing for me.

How did you cope with the weather conditions?
I wore seven layers on top and four layers on the bottom. It’s so cold! I started to strip down the layers after nine holes.

Hannah Jun (USA) 68-74=142 (-4)

How do you summarise your second round?
I played really good the first 10 holes I hit it really well but I didn’t make anything. It was a little rough towards the end but overall it was alright.

What are your reasons for coming to Europe?
My schedule is pretty much up in the air right now. I wanted to experience overseas golf. I’d heard great things about LET so I came over, decided to do Q-School and we’ll see what kind of status I get and then go from there.

First round leader quotes:

Pernilla Lindberg (Sweden) 66 (-7)

Seven birdies, no mistakes. You must be very pleased.
I am very pleased, especially because I came straight out of the pre-qualifier and I had a little bit of a rough day out there yesterday. I felt I lost my focus and had a rough round. It was nice to re-start everything today and start off this well.

How did the conditions compare to yesterday?
It was nice because there was no wind so one less factor to count in. I think it was good conditions out there for scoring, for sure. There were just a few drops of rain out there at the end but nothing that really affected it.

I see you play on the Futures Tour in the USA. Is this a typical round for you over there?
I wouldn’t call it typical but I had some low scores this summer and I got comfortable shooting low scores and I think that was a big thing for me. The first time you start getting to five, six under, it’s tough, but if you’ve been there before it’s easier.

What is your best score over there?
Eight under.

What are your plans for next year?
I actually earned my full status on the LPGA Tour just two weeks ago so that will be my main tour but with their schedule being limited for next year I hope that I can move back and forth.

Where do you live?
Oklahoma. I went to Oklahoma State and graduated in May and decided to stay over there.

What was the key to your round?
It was just really steady. I gave myself good chances on every hole and then just was patient. To start off with the putts didn’t really drop but towards the end they did.

Who is your caddie?
It’s my brother, Fredrik. He flew in last night. I just carried my own bag at the pre-qualifier and it was nice to have him here. He has caddied for me quite a bit during the summers before when I’ve been home.

Tandi Cuningham (South Africa) 68 (-5)

How did you feel about your round?
I was very happy with my round. I stuck with my game plan with regards to club selection off the tee. My main focus was to play bogey free golf; just keep it in the fairway. I hit it on the greens and fortunately today a few putts dropped.

What are you hoping for?
Tomorrow, no expectations; back to square one. It will be the same mindset: fairways and greens: hopefully bogey free golf. If the putts drop, fantastic. At least with that mind set, I know I will always be about level par.

How tough is this tournament?
This tournament is tough with regards to being mentally taxing. I think the course is playing easier than it was last year because the weather was awful last year, with the wind and the rain. You have a lot of expectations on what you can do and what you can’t do and you just have to ignore what the other players are doing. If you can do that then you’ve done very well.

How do you feel about your season on the LET?
This year was a great learning year. A lot of mistakes and a lot of hard lessons learned but all round, I consider it wisdom. You definitely learn more from mistakes. I did have some good results and I had some great rounds in between. For me the biggest thing was just the consistency and that comes from just the confidence with results and in time that will come.

Who is your caddie here?
Paul Cuningham, my husband.
