Jade Schaeffer-Calmels from France hit the shot of the day in the third round of the Lacoste Ladies Open de France when she holed out from 165 yards at the par-3 17th.

The two-time LET tournament winner, who won the 2009 German Open and 2011 Prague Masters, described the scene at Golf du Medoc: “I had 165 yards, into the wind and I just thought it was a perfect 5 iron, I didn’t feel like I needed a 4 iron. My caddie agreed, he thought it was the right club and just said to aim 3 metres to the left. I played a very beautiful shot and I was sure it was going close to the pin. It looked like it was in but I couldn’t see exactly but when I knew it was I was like, what, WOW!”

It was her third hole-in-one, but her first in 12 seasons on the LET. She said: “My first one was in the Scottish amateurs on the 8th hole at Royal Troon. My other one, is a very good story as well. I went back to a small French island, Reunion island, earlier this year and I played my old course where I started golf. I played the par-3 12th hole and I just don’t like the hole because when I was younger it was a very tough hole for me and I have very bad memories of this hole. I played a beautiful 7 iron and before when I would play there I would use a 3-wood and I made a slam dunk directly in the hole!”
