(Playa de Las Americas, April 30 2003) European number one Paula Marti from Barcelona heads into the first event of the European swing of the Evian Ladies European Tour as hot favourite to win the €200,000 Tenerife Ladies Open, which starts Thursday at Golf Las Americas beneath the foothills of the Mount Teide volcano on Tenerife.

Trish – 17th win soon?

“My shoulders feel more comfortable now and more natural and I’m ready to go in Europe again. I feel so welcomed coming back here and I’m really looking forward to this week.”

But at 33-1 odds, the smart money may well go on Trish Johnson. After missing out on The Solheim Cup at Interlachen and winless in three years, the rejuvenated Englishwoman will be looking to add not only to her 16 world-wide victories, but also claim a spot in Catrin Nilsmark’s team this September when Europe host the USA in Sweden.

“I’ve won 13 Tournaments in Europe and now I want to get to 20,” said Johnson.

“I feel I won those tournaments while I was half the player I am now and I’ve never looked forward to a season so much. I just want to win Tournaments again.”
