Following a T17th finish at the inaugural Ladies European Thailand Championship, England’s Florentyna Parker is ready for this week’s tournament back at Phoenix Gold Golf & Country Club. We caught up with Florentyna, who is currently in sixth position in the Order of Merit and is celebrating her birthday today in Thailand ….

What do you think of the Phoenix Gold Golf & Country Club course?

It is a very pretty course and has got a real mix of challenging holes. Last year we all seemed to struggle with the firmness of the greens. I’ve already played the course this year and it seems a bit easier controlling the ball on the greens. I feel because of this I will score a lot better this year but I think everyone else will as well. I think there are a few low numbers out there and I am hoping to have one of them.

The round of the week last year was 67. Do you think someone could go lower this year?

Yes definitely. I think there is a really low score out there, especially with being able to control the ball better on the greens. Obviously it does depend on the wind and how breezy it is going to be. But then again we want the breeze as well to cool us down! It is a really nice course, it’s in great shape and there are a lot of birdie opportunities out there.

What are your goals for the week?

My personal goal is that I want to have a really low round and I am going to be very aggressive about it.

What do you love about Thailand?

I first came here in 2001 when I went on a family holiday, like a lot of people come here for. The Thai food is great, the weather is perfect for a holiday and the people are very friendly and make you feel really welcome, that for me is why Thailand is an amazing place.

Have you got any plans away from the course?

I am celebrating my birthday today. My friends organised part 1 of the celebrations for last night and we will continue with part 2 with dinner this evening! It is great to experience some of Pattaya with my Tour Mates on my birthday.
