Catriona Matthew opens Gleneagles Pitch and Putt Course

The 2019 European Solheim Cup Captain, Catriona Matthew, continued to drive ‘Year to Go’ celebrations, when she played an opening chip shot to relaunch Gleneagles’ Pitch and Putt Course as ‘The Solheim Cup Course’, ahead of the biennial event which will be contested at the iconic Perthshire hotel next September.

The nine hole pitch and putt course is a complimentary facility for hotel guests and members and will retain its new name for just over a month, until the official ‘Year to Go’ date on September 10th.

The course, which has been installed with Official Solheim Cup tees, pin flags and even a replica of the tournament first tee boards, will serve as a reminder for what is to come in just over a years’ time, when the Solheim Cup comes back to Scotland for the first time since 2000.

Hotel guests and members who practise their chipping and putting on the course over the next month will be able to able to enter a prize draw for tickets to next year’s event and signed Solheim Cup memorabilia, by handing their scorecard to Gleneagles’ concierge desk.

The initiative is just one strand of ‘Year to Go’ celebrations taking place across key locations in Scotland until September 10th, with a feast of activities scheduled in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, Perth and Gleneagles.

‘Year to Go’ Calendar:
– Gleneagles Solheim Cup Pitch and Putt Course: Open from 8 August – 10 September
– Glasgow City Centre Trophy Roadshow: 18 – 19 August
– Dundee City Centre Trophy Roadshow: 25 – 26 August
– Edinburgh City Centre Trophy Roadshow: 1 – 2 September
– Perth City Centre Trophy Roadshow: 8 – 9 September

The 2019 Solheim Cup will showcase the stunning assets of Scotland, the Home of Golf, but also build on the legacy of the successful 2014 Ryder Cup at Gleneagles. It will underline that Scotland is the perfect stage for major golf events as it seeks to help inspire a new generation of children to take up the game invented in their home country.
